What is BIM (Building Information Model)
BIM is a designing, construction and management process of a building or infrastructure utilizing electronic information in order to define objects. In this process, all the information (products, man power, equipment, activities) of the construction and maintenance processes are collected in a common environment.
The BIM libraries are the evolution of the CAD blocks due to the fact that in the standard version they integrate the geometrical description together with the non graphic information relative to the product or object.
It is not only a visualization instrument but it also allows the exchange of information all along the supply chain, starting form the products technical datasheets up to the information on the life cycle of the entire building.
The BIM does not oblige you to use a new software or to change ones way of designing, but it allows you to centralize all the information, reducing the necessary time to find them and update them.

Why BIM
On the 15th of January 2014 the European Parliament approved the European Union Public Procurement Directive (EUPPD) or in other words the directive on the public tenders in the member states which at paragraph 4 article 2 describes:

“For public tenders and designing bids the member states may ask the use of specific electronic instruments like electronic simulation instruments for the constructions information or similar instruments”.

According to this directive the European States may encourage, specify or impose the utilization of BIM in those projects that are financed thanks to the use of  public funds in the European Union, starting from the year 2016.

P3BIM: Revit modelling family
P3 has developed a library of specific families, for the P3ductal ducts (P3BIM), that improve incredibly the default air ducts libraries in Revit, allowing an adequate “Level of Detail” to the BIM requests of the final customer. These families have been generated following the parameters of the BravoP3 software, which commands the P3 automatic cutting system (plotter).
